How many times have you said to yourself, “If I read this or take this class, I will be a different person. I will learn how to manage my mind. I will learn how to find my purpose. I will be able to meditate. I will be a better person and have a better life.” We just finished up the book A Path through the Jungle by author Prof Steve Peters and now there is a choice, practice the exercises in the book or put it on the shelf. So the question is, will you gain more self-knowledge, that is knowledge about yourself, by working with the exercises in the book, or will your shelf become all the wiser. Hmmm…something to ponder.
If your shelves are like mine with so many books that I have read, and worked with, they are a treasure trove of information and exercises for me to practice becoming a conscious person. Truth is, reading a book or taking a class or attending a seminar can only do so much for you. Of course, you may retain some of the knowledge, and you will be a different person from the experience. But as Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha has taught many of us to learn you gain knowledge, but to gain wisdom is to practice and live it. Make it part of your life every day.
As we grew, we learned things, but to make these part of who we are, we had to repeat it and repeat it until it became a habit, a skill, a knowing or a truth. The trick is in the practice and the repetition, so it becomes part of us and we don’t even have to think about it to do it. It works that way whether learning to swim, ride a bike, learn a language, play a sport, or becoming a meditator. Success is in the awareness and practice. Journaling the answers to questions really helps. So now you have an opportunity to explore yourself, make changes, take on a new skill and become a greater you.
So, what is the difference between Self-Knowledge and Wisdom, and Shelf Knowledge? The answer is your practice, your application, your repetition, and your intentions.
I invite you to join us, Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha, me and the other international co-hosts, to create our better self and a better world on Quantum Leap Book Club on Law of Attraction Radio Network at https://www.loaradionetwork.com/quantum-leap or on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/thequantumleapbookclub
