Do you think about preparations, for something about to happen?  We prepare for things all the time whether it is planning a trip, a medical procedure, cooking a meal, a party, in business, a project.  But do you really think about preparations on all levels: body/physical, emotional, mental, spiritual?  The truth is that we are all these levels or states, and no matter what we are going to do, we should look at where we are at on all levels.  In the book Consciousness Medicine: Indigenous Wisdom, Entheogens, and Expanded States of Consciousness for Healing and Growth by author Françoise Bourzat spends time writing about the importance of preparing yourself for use of plant medicines. And she writes about the fact that you need preparations on all levels to have the best experience for you.  Preparation is the key.

That got me thinking about preparations for everything we do.  For instance, do we only think about all the details of a party, but we don’t really reflect on how we are feeling or how we want to feel?  Do we reflect on our mind set, our stress levels, how we want others to feel, and how does it give joy to us as we connect with others?

Or if we are getting ready for a medical procedure, do we check in with our feelings or our fears?  Do we prepare our bodies by boosting our immune system or reflecting on our state of mind?  Do we look at our belief systems and our trust in a greater power or the Divine to assist us in healing?  After all, the body is made to heal itself.  How do we bring it balance to give it the best chance in doing so?

Mindful preparation in all things is key and the author makes this a key point in the use of consciousness medicine, whether plant medicines, breath work or sound healing to name a few.  And being present and truthful to yourself is key to the best experience.  Are you ready?
