In reading The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz, the author speaks about the agreements we all make.  Do we really live by agreements?  That is a question I have been pondering.  I looked up the definition of agreement and it means “Harmony or have the same opinion or about something, or consent to do something that has been suggested by another person.”  In the book, don Miguel Ruiz speaks of all the agreements we have made since we were born by just following what has been said or suggested by another person.  Think about it. We have been accepting what others have told us, instructed us, and commanded us since we were babies, whether what we have been told is truth or not.  And where we really agreed or not, we have followed what our parents taught us, what our teachers taught us, what our leaders told us, and the list goes on and on.  We just followed for the fear of punishment or the excitement of reward.  It didn’t mean we believed in all of it, but we still lived by it.  We made agreements to do or not to do.

I had a friend that always said, “If it isn’t a hell yes, then it is a hell no!”  This meant if you didn’t feel an immediate yes, then it was a no from inside and even if you did it, inside it was still a no.  So as this statement applies to agreements, if you do or if you don’t, you make an agreement with someone, or even more so, with yourself.

Another friend would say, “Not making a choice is really making a choice.” Not to choose is really a choice anyway.  So in the context of the agreement, by not choosing you are agreeing to something anyway.

The author shares with us that we live our whole lives based on agreements, beliefs, thoughts, that we make with ourselves and others.  Everything is an agreement.  Yet if you want to change your life, just begin by looking at the agreements you have made and if they are truth for you.  If not, change your agreement.  It is your life, your choice, your agreement.

So I invite you make some new agreements and explore this wisdom shared with us with Grandmother Pa’Ris’Ha, me and the other co-hosts, on Quantum Leap Book Club on Law of Attraction Radio Network.
